10-day comprehensive sensitization and awareness generation program for bus drivers and conductors begins

Union Territory Child Protection Society (UTCPS) under the aegis of Department of Social Welfare, Women & Child Development, Chandigarh Administration, has started a 10 day extensive sensitization and awareness generation program for Bus Drivers & Conductors of Chandigarh Transport Undertaking as per the directions of Mrs. Palika Arora, PCS, Member Secretary, UTCPS-cum-Director Social Welfare, Chandigarh Administration.

​    The purpose of this program is to strengthen Children Protection & Welfare Mechanism across U.T., Chandigarh by generating awareness & sensitizing Bus Drivers & Conductors on various Child Protection Schemes, Legislations & Issues such as Reporting Mechanism for Child Beggary, Child Labour, Child Sexual Abuse. The participants are also being sensitized about Mandatory reporting of abandoned child/victim of child sexual abuse under Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act, 2015 & Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012 alongwith punishment for non-reporting which is 6 months imprisonment or with fine or both.    

                     They were also informed about the procedure followed for Adoption of a child, relative adoption and step-parent adoption; Foster Care Scheme and Sponsorship Scheme under Mission Vatsalya wherein Rs. 4000/- per month per child is being given to orphan children, children of widows/divorced mother, etc.​

              The sensitization program had started from 21.3.2023 in collaboration with the Department of Transport, Chandigarh wherein 1100 drivers & conductors (batch of 100 participants) will be sensitized in a period of 10 days.
